Anatomy and Alignment for the Practice of Yoga
March 24-25, 2012

Join us for a fun and experiential, “on-the-mat” workshop as we explore the basic anatomical principles that are the 
foundation of yoga and structural alignment

This interactive workshop presents the principles of precision alignment that are the basis for all asana practice. You will learn to recognize proper alignment and understand common confusions that can result in injury. Anatomy provides the underlying rationale for why alignment is specific and consistent in all yoga postures. Taught through asana exploration this class is made simple, easy to understand, and immediately applicable to your practice or teaching. 

Steven Weiss, MS, DC, RYT has more than 30 years of experience as a holistic chiropractor and nutritionist, yoga student and teacher. Steven teaches anatomy, alignment principles, yoga therapeutics and nutrition for yoga teacher trainings around the United States and Asia.  For seventeen years, Dr. Weiss was the resident chiropractor and nutritionist for the Omega Institute for Holistic Studies in Rhinebeck, New York. Dr. Weiss is presently a post-graduate instructor with New York Chiropractic College and National University of Health Sciences, offering the ChiroYoga™ Seminars, a continuing education program for chiropractors that explores yoga-based biomechanics and therapeutics.  Also, a life-long athletic, Steven has been a marathon runner and instructor in long distance running classes. His teaching is strongly influenced by his background in structural bodywork, bringing a unique, hands-on approach to his workshops. He is a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists. His yoga training has been extensive in many traditions, studying with teachers in India and throughout the United States. Dr. Weiss practices in Sarasota, Florida, USA. He offers Align By Design Yoga Therapy, an alignment-based approach that is strongly influenced by his bodywork skills and experience as a chiropractor.

When the basic principles of yoga alignment are applied to anatomy and the mechanical relationships in the body, an effective system of yoga therapy emerges.  

Join us as we present an in depth approach to structural yoga therapeutics. In this “on the mat” and hands-on workshop, you will learn to recognize the precise details of structural alignment and how and where poor alignment leads to injury. You will be introduced to methods of applying alignment, using simple exercises, yoga postures and hands on assists to both prevent injury and help existing conditions improve.

This is an invitation to begin this New Year coming together uniting our intentions to Enliven, Restore, Empower, Renew.

This New Year, begin with a healthy start to your goals and resolutions. Get rid of the chains of the past and the promise of the future and sit in the joy of the day of January 1st. We will give you a yoga sequence that will ground you and open you to new possibilities. Join us in planting the seeds of our intentions with yoga, pranayama, meditation, and nutritional guidance.

We will begin at 11:00 am. and end at 1:00 pm.

Everyone is welcome, from beginner to the well-practiced.

Regina Halpin, RYT, RN - Founder of Prana Yoga. Brings her clinical background of thirty years in cardiac surgical nursing to her keen awareness of the interplay between health, vitality, and yoga.

Steven Weiss, MS, DC, RYT - is a nutritionist, holistic chiropractor, yoga therapist, and educator with thirty years experience in the fields of natural health and fitness.

From doctors and nurses to lab techs and insurance processors, back pain is one of the most common complaints. Bending, twisting, lifting, long hours of standing or sitting- all can cause chronic and persistent back pain.

The origin of many approaches to back pain and injury are rooted in the ancient principles of yoga. When practiced with today’s understanding of anatomy and precise alignment, yoga is a safe, empowering and affective approach to the rehabilitation and recovery of chronic back conditions.

Join us as we learn to apply simple postures and self-corrections in body alignment that strengthen and stabilize the back while helping to restore its natural flexibility!
